Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

If using the above listed scanners does not fix it or if you are blocked from installing those scanners then ask advice on one of the forums that specialize in malware removal mentioned in the Popups_not_blocked article.

You have to backup your bookmarks and then uninstall it with erasing all of your data, download it and install it.

Hope this helps. ~0UnknowN1

Thank you for your response but your solution does not work for me. Interesting enough when I now use windows explorer I cannot enter some of the microsoft sites. I cannot for example download their malicious tool remover.

Thank you for your help. It was certainly some Trojan viruses that caused the problem. I used both Microsoft malicious cleaning tool and also Eset. I am still not sure if my computer is completely clean so I may run some further scans using some those AV you recommended
