I did upgrade to 8 and no confirmation, still says I need upgrade, so now what?

Instructions for upgrade says at end of process, when prompted, place safari icon in applications. Never got prompt. When I go online still get prompt to upgrade. All 9 downloads are on desktop screen. Now no longer able to get security seal, says to set up new account (I did), but does not accept .net addys, so now have yahoo.com alternate accnt and still no security seal ...
