My husband set up all my quick access icons (I don't even remember what was there), with back arrows, facebook, google search box etc. It's all gone. How do I get it back?

Do you mean the Bookmarks Toolbar ?

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
  • If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

In my case, the bookmarks toolbar suddenly vanished the first time I launched Firefox after the upgrade to version 7.0.1. I had been using the toolbar for several years before this (and the toolbar had survived all the previous Firefox upgrades), and it had held at least 15 bookmarks for sites that I visit often.

I can still display the bookmarks toolbar by selecting the toolbar from the View menu. A new space does appear below the navigation bar. However, all the bookmarks that had been placed there are absent. If I attempt to add a bookmark to the toolbar by dragging and dropping, all I get is the circle with the slash through it letting me know that action is prohibited. The Bookmarks Toolbar Folder is also now empty, and I can no longer add a bookmark to the folder. In other words, I can display a bookmarks toolbar, I simply can't add anything to it.

The PC is running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 with all the latest patches. My other PC, running System 7 Home Premium. does not suffer from this; the bookmark toolbar survived the upgrade to 7.0.1 and I can still add and remove bookmarks.

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
  • Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

I just did everything suggested by cor-el (I'd tried all that previously, but it couldn't hurt to try again). Still no luck: I can see a blank space for the Bookmarks Toolbar, but Firefox does not allow me to add anything to it. See my October 16, 2011 6:20:07 PM post for the details.

Does anyone know if there is some advanced setting (maybe in the configuration settings) that LOCKS the bookmarks toolbar? The browser is certainly acting as if the Bookmarks Toolbar is locked so nothing can be added to it.

Do you see the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the Bookmarks Toolbar if you open the Customize window?

Larry!

I feel you. I am having the excat same problem and it is super-anoying.

I have also tried what that bot is suggesting, but I still can't add any webpages to the bookmarks toolbar.

Have you worked out a solution by now?

Please respond!

You can only add bookmarks items to the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" and that item can be placed on any toolbar. If that item is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then you can't drag or create bookmarks on that toolbar.

If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.

If the above didn't help then see:
