firefox does not bring up the password manager to remember passwork

If you've used Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History" then Firefox will automatically enter Private Browsing mode. In that case you won't see (Private Browsing) on the title bar, but you can still see a grayed "Tools > Stop Private Browsing" menu item.

To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history UnCheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
