Firefox 3.6.3 keeps randomly shutting down, even in safe mode. No matter what website I am visiting. It will even shut down when I have the browswer open, but working on another program that has nothing to do with Firefox.

Hello Ada.

You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal? Make sure that, when you are running in safe-mode, you instruct Firefox to disable all add-ons.

Your plugins list shows outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.

# Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22
# Java Plug-in 1.6.0_07 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)

Update the Java and Flash plugin to the latest version. See http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp#jdk (you need JRE) http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

HIYA Thanks for that but it randomly shuts down even in SAFE MODE with ALL EXTENSIONS and ADDONS disabled. I have re installed the program and have carried out a thorough virus, spyware and adware sweep. he problem still persists. It even happens when I LOCK the laptop. ( Toshiba A200)

See this section:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+you+open+it#Getting_your_crash_report (it's the one under Getting your crash report)

Please provide a link for your crash report. Hopefully we'll be able to work from there.

Do you have submitted more crash reports (about:crashes)?

The one in your first post didn't link to a bug report. http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/f8aff34d-5977-4758-8229-09b892100517

well when I click the link it takes me to the page I assumed WAS the report? WHat precisely is it you need? Thanks

The Crash ID. The one on your original post is fine, but it shows that you were running extensions. Can you please submit a crash ID of when you were not running any add-ons?

I seem to be having the same problem. Ive noticed whenever i go on a site that has a video on, it tends to shut down like youtube.

QB.

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.

If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

I have the exact same problem. FireFox closes unexpectedly seemingly at random. No crash message is given. And it does so even when run in SAFE MODE, with all addons disabled.

Now I've come to a dozen support threads which all mention that the problem could be with an addon, but this _should_ clearly not be a problem with an addon, since FF was run in SAFE MODE with all addons disabled. Please don't provide standard answers such as the above to user who have this problem, as they do _not_ apply.

I have an ASUS Eee netbook running Windows XP btw. Following your instructions I get this crash report : http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1d58e99f-e5e3-4659-8ee6-8b4a32100731

This also shows a number of addons used - why I wouldn't know, as FF was supposedly run in SAFE MODE. Despite at least two crashes generated when FF was run in safe mode, no new crash ID's appeared in the "submitted" folder.

@MortenBlaabjerg

Please do not use existing threads to ask a question, but start a new thread instead.

Then you also can provide troubleshooting information like your operating system and installed plugins (about:plugins), and extensions (Tools > Add-ons) and we will be better able to help you.

You have a problem with the Flash player plugin (10.1 r53)

Try to uninstall the current Flash Player and update to the latest version.
