How to disable Left or Right Swipe Deleting Tabs - Need Solution

Hello, I'm writing to describe a recurring problem I'm facing while using Firefox on my Android device, and I need your help to find a solution.

The issue is that my tabs keep getting accidentally deleted when I scroll up and down. The touchscreen on my device is highly sensitive, and simple scrolling often triggers the "left or right swipe" action, causing the current tab to close. This is incredibly frustrating as I like to keep my tabs organized, and having to reopen them repeatedly is time-consuming.

I've tried looking for a solution in the Firefox for Android settings config:about, but I haven't been successful so far. Is there any way to disable or adjust this feature so that left swiping no longer closes my tabs?

I'm a dedicated Firefox user and would like to continue using this browser, but this problem is significantly impacting my browsing experience. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with a solution to this issue.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Best regards, Denise

Hi Denise

Have you considered turning off Android's gesture navigation?

This support article from Google should help:

Unfortunately, that hasn't changed anything, and I don't see why modifications to the system would affect Firefox since it's a feature inherent to Firefox itself.

There is an option under Customise in the Settings menu to turn off swiping to switch tabs, but you should find that your tabs are not closing.

As suggested, I checked the "Customize" section in the Settings menu to disable swiping to switch tabs. However, this solution did not resolve my problem. The issue persists when I scroll up and down in my Firefox history, causing my tabs to be unexpectedly closed. To prevent them from being closed, I am forced to repeatedly click "undo," which has become quite inconvenient and frustrating.

I have already adjusted the touch sensitivity settings on my system. The behavior persists despite these changes.

For your reference, I have attached a screenshot demonstrating the issue I'm facing.

I kindly request your further assistance in resolving this matter. Your prompt attention and expertise in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and support!

As far as I can tell, the right swipe in the tab list meaning "close tab" cannot be turned off. (I may very well be wrong there.) Maybe it's less an issue on your device if you change the tabs view to grid (Settings: "Tabs", section "Tab view", option "Grid")?

I had already tried this last week, but it didn't help at all. It seems there's no way to disable these annoying and poorly thought-out features. As a result, I guess I'll have to part ways with Firefox and find another browser.

Maybe try first whether it's any better in another browser; it seems to me most have very similar swipe actions. And possibly make a feature request for Firefox.

Thanks for trying to help. Feature request for Firefox, how to do so?
