Firefox will NOT save my home page and hasn't for a number of releases.

I always used Bing as my homepage. Firefox will not allow me to change my home page to something outside your defaults. I have tried your instructions (I already knew how to do it as I have used Firefox for AGES). None of those work. It hasn't worked for a number of releases. I want to have the home page I want. There is no "saving" the home page anymore. And just changing and following instructions (even the drag and drop) had NO effect. If it close Firefox and reopen it, I am back to the defaults. I am kind of getting to the point that if I cannot save my settings anymore I just think I finally need to switch browsers to one that does.

What is your current home page?

This could be caused by an add-on or other program.

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage

What is the value? Right-click and select Reset to restore its default value; about:home

You can check the about:policies page (63+) to see if policies are active and if errors are reported.

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts. The user.js file will only be present if you or other software has created this file and normally won't be present.

You can check its content with a text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click). The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself. See also:

Neither of these fixed it. I have done the js file stuff before. It does not fix anything. I end up right back where I started. And I don't have a lot of add ons. And I have checked them.

Can you post the content of the user.js ?

Keep in mind that any pref set via user.js can't be changed permanently because user.js is read each time you start Firefox and involved prefs are initialized to the state as set in user.js.

It says Firefox Home Default but it has "recommended by Pocket" articles on it but at the top are urls and a search field.

And I deleted the js file. done that more than once.

What is in the user.js file if you open this file in a text editor or in a Firefox tab ?

You can do a malware scan just to be sure.
