The ability to save credit cards has not been rolled out to everyone just yet. It's currently only available for users running the en-US version of Firefox within the US.

You can try forcefully enabling it in Firefox by following these steps, but I cannot vouch of whether or not the feature will work fully when enabled this way:

  1. Enter about:config in the Firefox address bar.
  2. Bypass the warning message (if required).
  3. Enter extensions.formautofill. into the search bar that appears on that page.
  4. Change the extensions.formautofill.creditCards.available preference to true (if required).
  5. Change the extensions.formautofill.creditCards.enabled preference to true (if required).
  6. Change the extensions.formautofill.available preference to on (if required).
  7. Restart Firefox.

Hope this helps.

I am running the en-US version. sha256:c4975a1a73dd1976e1f58cf5822921d25f2fb4a0e092897037e039d7ac6b8a67

I got it from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/81.0/mac/en-US/

I am using en-US sha256: c4975a1a73dd1976e1f58cf5822921d25f2fb4a0e092897037e039d7ac6b8a67

I received the file from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/81.0/mac/en-US/

Hi Mace2

When you post a reply that contains external links then this reply needs to be examined and approved by a moderator as an anti-spam measure, so there can be a delay before this reply appears.

Did you modify all above mentioned prefs on the about:config page ?

  • extensions.formautofill.available = "on" (String)
  • extensions.formautofill.creditCards.available = true (Boolean)
  • extensions.formautofill.creditCards.enabled = true (Boolean)

Close and restart Firefox after changing these prefs.

The directory posted is mozilla's own list of Firefox's older installations "https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/"

Isn't that correct? cor-el?

What I believe to be a mozilla site "https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/" has all the older FF versions but when I downloaded the Mac OS version 81.0 which is the en-US version it does not have the new credit card feature and it also does not have D.O.H. active by default.

The sha256 hash is c4975a1a73dd1976e1f58cf5822921d25f2fb4a0e092897037e039d7ac6b8a67

It should be en-US but it does not have the new credit card feature in the menu. Why? Is FTP site no longer valid?

Yes, that is a possible location where you can find all releases. There are quite a few such links to Mozilla servers like the cdn.mozilla.net CDN servers.

I've locked your other thread about Mozilla servers hosting older Firefox versions as it is better to restrict the discussion about this subject to this thread.

You can check for problems with preferences. You can delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename/remove the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Is the hash sha256:c4975a1a73dd1976e1f58cf5822921d25f2fb4a0e092897037e039d7ac6b8a67

valid for US-en 81.0 Mac OS?

Yes, that should be the correct hash for the Mac 81.0.dmg file.

Is there a problem with verifying this hash ?

If that is the case then there is usually security software interfering with downloading.

SInce the hash is correct then the version I have installed is en-US version of Firefox 81 but it does not have the credit card auto fill option according to Wesley response. Why?

"...this will be rolling out to users gradually." https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/81.0/releasenotes/

So the information provided by Wesley Branton is incorrect ? "It's currently only available for users running the en-US version of Firefox within the US."

I am running version 81.0 and it is en-US as verified by the hash I provided and it is not available for this version?

both pieces of info are correct: the feature is only available in the us and canada at this point and will be enabled for those eligible users gradually.

It's not rolled out to everyone so that the developers can work out some final bugs and ensure the feature is working fully before giving it to everyone. Usually, eligibility is done either by random selection or for only users with specific computer specifications.

If you follow the steps I provided in my original reply, you will be able to use the feature.

I still do not understand. I provided the hash for the version 81 and it appears you are saying Mozilla can customize software with the same version but different capabilities?

Bleeping computer states that version 81 provides credit card auto fill option in version 81.

I have version 81 it is version en-US so how does a user that downloads this version know that has this credit card version is installed ? Can you provide a hash value for a valid FF version?

yes, mozilla has the ability with system addons, remote settings and studies to customize software and turn on features in firefox gradually.

in particular this would mean that every downloaded version of firefox 81 contains the code necessary to run the feature (so the hash of the installer is not relevant), but it's not turned on by default and mozilla can control the timing and percentage of users for whom credit card autofill would be turned on and made available in the settings.

Your response means that if I have version 81 installed and I do not have studies enabled I will not see the option for credit card autofill until it is fully installed in the next version as I expect remote access to my FF to make changes on the fly to a already installed browser is not possible. see enclosed settings

yes that's my understanding as well - unless you manually enable the feature (extensions.formautofill.creditCards.available, extensions.formautofill.creditCards.enabled)

  1. 1
  2. 2
