It's pretty easy and this won't effect any of your stuff either.

Type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter. You will see at least one Profile which says: Profile: Default User - This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is the Profile with all of your stuff. Just above that, click Create a New Profile. A Profile Wizard will open. Go through the steps naming the Profile anything that you want, except Default User, of course. Below the new profile click Launch profile in new browser. Leave the other window open. Go to Ebay. If the sign-in button is blue, well, we've got a little bit more work to do. Close that window. In the first window, under the Profile: Default User, select Set as default profile. The New Profile won't interfere with anything or use any resources. You can leave it if you ever want to Test something again. Or, you can go ahead and Remove it now. Test over. Everything should be back to normal.

Ok, great!...The new "profiles" worked....did sign in for eBay normally....blue button, no gray....

But, I'm confused as to which/where I "select Set as default profile".... the bottom one, "Magenta user" is the new profile that works....

Attached are the screen shots for the "profiles" window.....and the Magenta one is the new one that works for eBay...but the format of the Firefox toolbars or bookmarks are now showing...I'm a bit confused at this point....although your instructions seem clear...must be my age....

Over to you again....

The profile in use is the one with all of your data. You can set that one as default.

We need to decide what to do next.

I see two options: 1) we try to figure out what is wrong in the profile "Jay" or 2) we transfer all of your data from "Jay" to "Magenta User"

It's up to you to call which game we play.

Game #2 involves this article:

Recovering important data from an old profile https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile#firefox:mac:fx69

Game #1 - I'm kind of at a loss. Maybe deleting some files. After you make a back up.

I would only ask which is easier and sure......and my guess would be to transfer to the new "Magenta user", is that correct?

There is the risk that we could transfer a corrupted file - like permissions.sqlite - and have the problem follow to Magenta user.

The very first thing to do is make a back up (copy) of Jay so that no data is at risk.

Backup copy of Firefox?.......easy for you to say....... I'm reading the instructions from the link you sent and already I'm totally lost....I can't find my "profile folder".....where is it?

I am (again) confused....how can I find the profiles folder if , as the instruction dictate, close Firefox?

I'm sorry for all these basic questions but I ma not exactly a tech-savy guy.

It's Ok I just made a fresh pot of coffee.

Type about:profiles in the address bar and press enter.

Next to Root directory select open folder.

Do this for both Jay an Magenta user.

Then quit Firefox.

In the Jay profile (we call them file explorer windows) window back up one level until you see fvej358f.JAY and copy that entire folder.

Save that someplace. and we can move on. Open the fvej358f.JAY folder again - it should look the same as the Magenta user. Side - by - side would probably be convenient.

Now you want to copy files from Jay and paste them into Magenta user. I'm thinking these should do for starters:

bookmarkbackups (folder) places.sqlite favicons.sqlite key4.db logins.json search.json.mozlz4 persdict.dat cookies.sqlite ? cert9.db handlers.json

They will overwrite the files in Magenta user, so, I guess you have to tell Mac to do that.

After you get that done, minimize the profile windows and start Firefox. It should start in the default profile Jay.

Go to about:profiles again and Launch Magenta user in a new window. How is it looking? Is Ebay still OK?

ok, Now I'm following your precise instructions.....but...when I hit the "root directory" for both Magenta and 'Jay" profiles, they say the exact same thing ..."fvej358f.JAY"...I can't seem to differentiate between them...they are both labeled the same...no matter how many times I try it....does that make sense?

The Root directory in each profile. Not any Local directories. One should say Jay the other profile Magenta user.

opened side by side, I can't tell which is the 'magenta' file, none of the three folders in the 'root directory' are marked 'magenta'...baffled again...

Maybe you have to quit Firefox for Mac to write the new Magenta profile?

Sorry...just figured this part out....ok, I now have the two duplicate folders side by side......should I go back to your prior instructions of "copy files from Jay and paste them into Magenta user".....?

Did you make a copy (back up) of Jay?
