Hi - I'm puzzled/frustrated by the above problem, which makes composing email almost impossible as the message pane moves every time the Contacts List flashes up. Problem has been intermittent so I'm not sure when it started. However, it is now constant. Here's some extra info: I'm using Windows 10 - presumably the latest UK release (on auto-update). I uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird to get latest release 60.3.0 Same problem! I started Thunderbird in Safe Mode. Same problem. I tried pressing F9 to show/hide Contacts pane. Problem disappears for a few seconds, then starts again. I can't think of any other change that I have made to cause this. Also...my wife has identical PC (same make, Windows 10 etc. but different apps apart from running Thunderbird, but with no problem. Her TB version is 52.9.1 and Thunderbird says it is 'up to date' which is also confusing. I hope someone can help Thanks David

Using a wireless keyboard with a flat battery? The flickering sounds like something is pressing the F9 key. and a part flat battery could see that happening.

Hi Matt - great thinking! It isn't a wireless keyboard, but it does seem potentially to be a problem with the F9 function. That would explain why the problem temporarily disappears when I press F9. It also probably explains a different problem with another app which - I just checked - is related to the F9 function. Now all I need to do is get hold of another keyboard - or swap with my wife's keyboard to prove the case...  :-) Many thanks for switching my thinking from software to hardware, and taking the time to answer. I will report back before closing the question. David

Hello Matt - it seems definitely to be the F9 key. Very strange - I hardly use that key and there is no sign of coffee etc. going on to it. Thanks again for the lateral thinking and quick response. David
