VIEW settings don't work in Thunderbird

under VIEW - TODAY PANE- I want ....show none it is on show mini pane and won't change.

close the today pane. Close any calendar or task tabs. Change the today pane setting Reopen the today pane.

That is what I just had to do to get it to work.
