Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

In Firefox 54 and below:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

In Firefox 55 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.

Hope this is what you need, 66 years old and don't know what I'm doing.

It's like a time machine to the early days of the web!

But seriously, one reason you might see this is if Firefox reported that a connection was untrusted and let you make an exception. The exception lets you load the page, but many sites use additional servers to add style and function to the page, and those may still be blocked.

If that rings a bell, please check these articles for potential causes and solutions, and let us know if they help at all:

Thanks for helping, to dumb to understand, I don't have error code, should have took a shot of first page to go along with the first.

Here's a shot of the page that comes up first, it has a banner above it "foxfire prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page". At the end of banner it has allow or X. Allow does nothing. Clicking on another page takes you to the second page.

See:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General: Accessibility
remove checkmark: [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

The setting in "Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

Two questions:

(1) Is this the page that loads without the expected styling:

http://start.att.net/news/

If that's not the one that has the problem, could you copy/paste the address of the problem page from the address bar into a reply?

(2) Do you see any unusual icons in the address bar, at the left end? Usually there is a circle with an i in it, sometimes there is a lock indicating a secure connection, and occasionally there will be another icon. Clicking that area should drop a panel indicating whether there's anything unusual from Firefox's perspective.

Under "3-bar" options isn't there and settings "Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General" isn't there. I did find under privacy & security I had checked "warn you when websites try to install add-ons. I only have General, Search, Privacy & Security, and Foxfire Account.

I was playing around and in ESET my security I brought up Mozilla page and typed https//att.net it took me to https//att.net yahoo search, there under "Home- Welcome to att.net"---start.att.net I clicked it and everything is working. I still can't get regular website to work, also all this just started while I was using my computer 2 days ago.

Thanks for everyone's help, I keep playing around and I had Privacy Badger insalled. It was keeping foxfire from working. It just took 2 days and your help to figure it out.

Hi Banna, please keep that protection against installations from untrusted sites turned on.

The Options page layout changed in Firefox 56 and the "Advanced" settings are now spread onto other panels -- or gone. There is another way to turn off the redirect block.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste auto and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to true, double-click it to restore the default value of false (or you can right-click > Reset it)

You can close that tab now.

AT&T has a longtime partnership with Yahoo, so you may see the same news on Yahoo that you saw on AT&T. I don't know what to tell you about the other page. What was the address of the page that doesn't load correctly?

You can set this pref to true on the about:config page in Firefox 56 to revert to the previous appearance of the Options/Preferences page.

  • browser.preferences.useOldOrganization = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
