Hello

I haven't been using Firefox in a while, but since Google Chrome isn't supported anymore for Windows vista, I switched back to Firefox (esr) some weeks ago. Now the problem is, that Firefox doesn't load webpages correcly and crashes after using it for a couple of minutes. For example, when I go to google street view, after a couple of clicks, street view starts showing black spots al over the screen and loading incorrecly from that point. Or when I'm watching a video on YouTube, when I scroll, the website messes up.

Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be and how to solve it?

Thanks in advance

Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit) 4,00 GB RAM Intel Pentium Dual-Core CPU E6300 Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT (512 MB)

See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Press the Reply button. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Then restart. Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?

It's hard to say. One thing some Nvidia users had to do in older versions of Firefox to avoid blackouts was to disable "off main thread composition" as follows:

(0) Select and copy the following new preference name:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.force-disabled

(1) In a new tab, type about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste layers.off and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Right-click a blank area of the page, click New, then Boolean

(4) Paste the preference name, then click OK

(5) Select true, then click OK -- the preference should appear in the list, bolded, and user set to true -- if you need to remove this later, right-click > Reset it

I think you probably need to restart Firefox before that takes effect.

Thank you for the advice.

My graphics driver is up to date (version 342.01) which was the last version supported by Windows Vista. Newer driver versions require Windows 7 or higher.

I tried clearing the Cache and removing cookies but it didn't help.

I also tried the new preference name in about:config, but no luck.

I rememeber when I used Firefox in the past on this computer (almost 6 years ago) that this problem didn't occur. Also want to mention that this doens't happen in Internet Explorer.

Any other advice? (I can send you some pictures or a video about the problem if you want)
