These are the last 5 crash reports beginning with the most recent. Whether I have one tab open or multiple the same thing happens. Except for the header, the screen suddenly goes black. In one instance, I was able to guess where the save button was located. I didn't want to lose the edits I had made to my website. And, in fact, the changes were saved. I suspected they would be, as I saw some flickering when I clicked on the spot where I figured the save button was, which was an indication that it was still working but I just couldn't see it because of the black screen. Also, in the case where I have only tab open, I am able to open other tabs, which also have the black screen. And when I do have multiple tabs open, I am able to switch to other tabs, but all those screens are also black.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button# -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Try to disable multi-process windows in Firefox to see if that has effect. You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
