click on 'Address Book' click on the small right pointing arrow located left of 'All Address Books'. This will expand the directory.

When you close 'Address Book' the expanded setting should be remembered.

My Address Book window does not have "All Address Books"

Hughes/Friedman: If your Thunderbird 'Address Book' does not have 'All Address Books' then it is possible you are using an old version of Thunderbird. Suggest you update to a more recent version eg: 45.2.0

In Thunderbird 'Help' > 'About Thunderbird' check for updates

Or if this is a very old version, suggest you ininstall Thunderbird via computer 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features' and then download and install the latest version from the following link making sure you select the correct language and download for your OS.

As a heads up.... When you post a comment in someone elses question, you are sending them an email and they may not want to respond. The only reason I saw your comment was because I forgot to stop following this already solved question. So really, you were lucky to get any response. As this question is already marked as solved, please do not ask any more queries in this question.

Hi Toad-Hall: Sorry to say that it didn't work. Unless you're interested, I'm not going to bore you with a resumé of what I have tried and learned under the direction of Matt. I'd like to think that it would be of interest and use to the community but because I've had no response to my last messages to Matt in which I tried to describe what I had done and asked for more detailed assistance, I doubt it. I decided to use the "snipping tool" to capture the contents of the address book on my notebook and manually copy the addresses to the Thunderbird address book on my desktop which will not display the addresses copied digitally from my notebook w.r.t your "heads up", I thought I was following up on my own earlier question to Matt, with the hope that he would re-open our exchange. Thank you for your effort to help me. By the way, your nom du guerre took me back some 75 years when I read "Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame and saw the play "Toad of Toad Hall".
