I tried one or two solutions above but none helped me with my problem. The "Before" and "After" images show what I am up against. There are two problems that are shown. No. 1: When I copy material from another source that is reasonably formatted on the right and place it in Thunderbird, for some reason it winds up looking like the 'Before' image which is not very pleasing to the eye. Ni, 2: Then when I try to correct the format problem using the Enter key, Thunderbird will insist on placing a line space, that I didn't ask for, in the data that is placed on my screen. Naturally I have no idea what the receiver of this message sees when he opens this e-mail. I would prefer that it not include any errors that Thunderbird may have inserted in this e-mail of mine. Can you help?

Item 1. Stop trying to format your email anywhere but in your email client. Word and Libre office are word processors, their output is intended to go on paper. As you are finding mail is not a document. It is closer to a web page than anything else.

Item 2.Read about the change to the editor and chage the setting described in the instructions https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45#w_mail-composition

Item 3. Hanging paragraphs/ Indented paragraphs etc that have been part of the printers stock in trade of centuries do not translate to HTML without a lot of effort.

Item 5 If you want to control appearance, use PDF attachments.
