Thunderbird keeps asking me for my password every time I log in and even again, after I've just entered it.

The last couple of times I installed the latest versions of thunderbird, evey time I opened my email, it asks me for my password, I enter it and it immediately asks me again for my password in spite of the fact that it is in the process of downloading my emails. Frequently, it does the same when I've been loged in for a while and try to send out an email.

I have an older MacPro operating on 10.6.8. I have just the basic Thunderbird version 45.1.1 installed WITHOUT any add-ons.
