reconciling 3 versions of a MAIL folder from one Profile

MacBook Pro. After all the work I did to transfer my Profile and Mail to the new (pre-owned) computer, the new one has failed; it does not boot. Looks like a bad graphics card so will be returned. Presuming I can use Target Disk Mode to access my data, I will have 3 slightly different versions of all my Mail folders: 1) the bad "new" computer, with several days of new emails. 2) the USB drive with the state of the "old" computer's emails, at the time they were transferred to the "new." 3) the "old" computer with emails from when the "new" went bad.

There is a small overlap between #1 & #3, because after resetting the SMC, #1 booted again and I used its email for some hours, before it failed again.

I would like to copy Profile #1 to the old computer (into Library/Thunderbird/Profiles) and move all the mail from the last several days to a "NewMail" folder, then simply copy it into Profile #3. Also the .msf file. Will that work?

One problem is that both #1 and #3 store my "main" emails outside of the Profile folder, in the same place with the same folder name: Documents/ThunderbirdMail

So I guess I should first go to #3 and change the location to "ThunderbirdMail#3" and change the filename to match. Then the #1 Profile will still find the unique name "ThunderbirdMail" and I can copy it into the /documents folder.

Does this sound correct? Anything else I'd need to do?
