Prevent firefox from restoring closed windows

Currently, I'm using Firefox 43.0.1 and if the browser crashes and is restarted, it tries to open dozens of windows, which most of them I already had closed long *before* the crash. Before my update to v43 (sorry, I don't know which version I had previously - maybe something like v24 or so), the browser restored only the windows that where opened during the crash. Now, my system freezes for dozens of seconds, producing a lot of network transfer (because every opened window loads one tab and if it is YouTube or some other heavy website, you can imagine what happens - especially if it plays sound!), and almost kills my system. What did the Firefox Developers changed? How can I turn this dump feature off again?

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Set browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0

Thank you. Will this still restore last opened windows or will setting this to 0 prevent restoring anything?

If Firefox starts after a bad shutdown, it will show a page listing the windows that were open when it shut down.

You can also check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder that stores session data. When sessionstore.js is deleted you lose pinned tabs and Tab Groups and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Note that you get the about:sessionrestore page when you set browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0
