Firefox V 47 screwed up all my stuff. No add-ons, can't get it to look like V 46

I've never had trouble keeping Firefox up to date and always download and install the latest version as quickly as I can. However today going to V 47 really messed up everything. How can I get my Tabs, Toolbars and Add-ons back and looking like V 46? This was a major screwup bu Mozilla for sure.

Hi, it's possible that one or more of your add-ons is incompatible with FF47, so try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

If it is a particular add-on, see if there is an update for it - Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions.

Incidentally, you have more than one version of Shockwave Flash - which can cause problems, so all but the latest should be removed from your machine -

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem. Thank you!

Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 20.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 19.0 r0 Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0

Deleting the old copies of Shockwave Flash fixed the problem and restored my tabs, bookmarks, etc. Why doesn't the installation of a new version of Shockwave delete the previous version?

Most of the time, it does. But sometimes . . . . . .

May be wrong thread but...W7 64 bit. All ff updates after 45.0.2 have come up with a white, unresponsive screen without sidebar bookmarks and many, many other malfunctions. 47 did the same as above PLUS crashes windows every time I open ff. I have had to revert back to 45.0.2 each time to get a functional, usable and stable ff. I went to forums after 45 but none of the "solutions" worked. Any useful help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, David
