How do I stop Thunderbird 45 switching to the discrete graphice card on a macbook pro?

With GPU Acceleration disabled Thunderbird 45 is still switching my 2010 macbook pro to the Nvidia graphics card as reported by gfxCardStatus. This in turns causes it drain the battery and run much hotter than it did with previous versions.

If this is not a bug how can I go back to the last version and disable updating?
