All messages? I would suspect that someone is deliberately composing his messages this way. It's a style I occasionally see in newsgroups.

So you're suggesting this is a receipient-side reworking of my message; i.e. the recipient doesn't see this "reference list" but I see it in his reply's reformating of my message?

I have, up to now, never heard of Thunderbird doing this.
