migrating from outlook express to thunderbird and want to retain my saved folder structure and hierarchy ..how do I do that?

I am migrating my old xp machine where I used outlook express to a windows 7 machine where I will use thunderbird but I have been unable to figure out what I need to do to copy my saved emails in folders and the current hierarchy to the new system. It copied the folders but lost the structure and hierarchy just alphabetized everything. How can I copy the folders and keep the old structure?
