Each time I send an email in my native hungarian language, using hyphens the email properly received by receipient, but when I look at my sent folder the text is gibberish and almost unreadable, like this:

Kedves Széchenyi István Társaság tagjai, volt tagjai, barátok és támogatóink! ÂNem írtam Nektek, amióta átadtam Társaságunk elnöki pozicióját Felsővályi Ákosnak, de szeretném, ha tudnátok, hogy mint igazgató, továbbra is szolgálom Társaságunkat.

I am using Toshiba Satellite L-500 running on Windows 7 64bit and using Thunderbird 36.100 I downloaded the hungarian dictionary, but no help. Checked and rechecked settings but no help. Any suggestions?

This is not the solution. I have already installed several different languages on Thunderbird including an Addon called Hungarian dictionary.

I can write in hungarian and use hyphens just fine. I can use the hungarian text to someone who receive it just fine. If I copy of this to me and IU receive it in the in box the text is just fine also.

But when I look in my sent file the same text is like above.

ok on the view menu is text encoding. that would normally be UTF, but play with the entries to locate the one that displays correctly.

Now right click the folder, select properties and then set the character encoding for the folder to the one that is working for you.

One caveat. This may not work well for English emails.. Changing the character encoding might mess them up and fix the Hungarian ones.

Matt, Thank you for your note but I don't think that is the answer. I have been using the default font and character encodings reccomended by Thunderbird, which Western and Western (ISO-8859-1). I also tried to use Unicode with UFT-8 but the result is the same.

What I know about Hungarian is about Zero, but the mangling looks like character encoding, although font might also cause it I suppose.

Open the mail, press Ctrl+U to get the source. Look for character encoding in the source and see if it is set correctly. I have no idea of your skills, but this is simple even if you have no idea what your looking at really.

example charset="utf-8"

Matt, Thank you for your reply. The Control plus U does show Utf-8. as shown below. So, should I change it to Utf-8 both and leave above as Western? I am also using Helvetica Arial large font

I solved the above problem, not the way I would have liked it but out of neccessity and no help.

Since all my emails that were SENT in in Hungarian language, when looked in my SENT box the massage was unreadable. Something is happening between sending the email and automatically ending up in the SENT folder. Mozilla need to work on this.

What I did was to send a blind copy of every email that I send and in such whe I receive my blind mail in my Inbox, than its readable and I am able to file it as I please. This extra step worth it for me to keep my sent emails readable and legitimate.

Good luck fixing this problem.
