Thunderbird will no longer launch a PDF file. How can I fix this?

Until a few months ago I could double click a PDF attachment and it opened the PDF file to read. Since installing and uninstalling some PDF readers, this no longer works. What do I do to fix it?

From the Menu Bar select Tools-Options-Attachments-Incoming and delete the helper app you have there for PDF files. The next time you open a PDF select the correct helper app.

No menu bar? Press the alt key.
