windows system xp sp 2 no issues with previous versions of Firefox nor any version of flash( down graded to enable less stuttering).using the following method in firefox plugins ..deactivate and choose always ask in applications. now the following bizarre thing happens,.i use you tube as reference as its flash based but there are other sites also, when you go to you tube with the browser type the url in. the page loads and renders quickly, all images on right of page are filled in quickly also, now the video window does say activate flash as i expect it to and away we go no problem..now folks go back into applications and enable flash ,well now you have a snail at your feet,it takes much longer to see the page rendered and the images on the right also.its appalling i find no such problems in chrome no such problems in safari nor opera nor explorer, yes i got so ticked off i downloaded opera and chrome, only chrome and safari remain, and no i hate chrome. firefox 29 is not really such a leap fwd,and before some clever monkey says well your system has xp,but i have had no issues, and no version of flash helps,so you see im not amused at having to enable flash when regqd usually after the page has loaded..never had to do it before so why now, answers on here or a postcard which never gets here would be nice.

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

I need to point out hardware acceleration is off .. in my post here there are no issues with video playback within the browser,i did down grade to version 10 of flash because of some very very minor freezing in the latest version of flash ! but once again my post relates to the fact firefox 29 and the flash plugin are causing a slowdown in web page rendering in other words it takes a fare bit longer to load a page up even on a fast broadband connection ! i do not relate to any content on a page which is video based not playing and as not all flash is video.i relate to the fact the web page which is detected as containing flash because the browser shows that symbol in the address bar,is taking much longer to load .when you use the drop down box under the address bar and say allow now or allow and remember etc after the page has loaded is not part of the issue because the page has finished loading and you can carry on as normal and watch the video or flash content. by clicking on "enable flash".i am saying you need to block the plugin to allow faster webpage loading and by the fact i never had to before suggests a problem, you tube was given as example not as the culprit.but as it stands having the plugin enabled all the time with hw acceleration on or off and no matter what flash player is installed there is an issue here.speedier webpage access with a disabled plugin

Try to set the Flash plug to click-to-play by setting the permissions for Flash to "Ask To Activate" in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins". That way you can activate the Flash plugin when you need it via the Lego block icon on the location bar.

QUOTE:when you use the drop down box under the address bar and say allow now or allow and remember etc ....as you may see from this in my post the as you call it lego block was there in the address bar as stated in my post. thus the permission to "always ask" is enabled otherwise i would not be given the option to "allow once "or "continue to allow " etc.i think we are missing the point here and i do not wish to be rude to anyone ! but why on earth should i have to mess about allowing flash on demand when previous versions of firefox did not slow my browser down with the flash plugin enabled.i am competent enough to use the "always ask "workaround but in my opinion using ,google chrome does not exhibit this nor does opera nor does safari.and safari is very quick but messes up on occasion,i hate chrome and opera just is bland and has odd ways of doing things..so i do like my firefox when it works.but i know the workaround, but its a pain, all i want to know is why when i remove the flash plugin from my system i have a rapid browsing version 29 firefox, when i re install ANY VERSION of flash we have the issues i refer to in my post. slow browsing and yes the workaround is apparent but not the answer is it.who wants to keep having to click messages or a blacked out video window !!
