If I remember correctly, old versions of Firefox had a black bar below the navigation bar on the opening screen which allowed specific searches for "Images" "News" "Maps" "Video" "Shopping", etc. Now this bar only appears when a search has been carried out. Is it possible to customise Firefox so this appears on the opening screen. The bar does not seem to have a toolbar name.

Firefox 4+ versions use a new build-in home page named about:home with a Google search bar on it (no internet access needed to load that page).

That about:home page only shows some snippets and has a button to restore the previous session if applicable.

If you want a home page with extras then set another page as the home page like www.google.com as used in Firefox 3 versions or the iGoogle site ([www.google.com/ig]).
