after booting my system I can't find my bookmarks and I can't restore from a cd

I lost bookmarks after rebooting my system several times because I could not get on the internet. Now I have no bookmarks. Attempting to load from a backup cd and it says it can't process. I tried restoring to an earlier date but it did not work.

Sounds like you did attempt to save your user data ahead of time, but finding that the backup is no good or incompatible with how you are trying to use it.
