I marked "Ask always" for Microsoft excel files, but Firefox always download them

HI! I'm using Firefox 98 on Linux Ubuntu 20.04. after the last update I found several settings changed and I had to reset them, but there is one setting I can't manage. In the download preferences I set all the Microsoft Excel entries to "Always ask", but every time that I try to see an Excel file (no download, just open with ...), this is automatically downloaded. I definitively don't want to download it. How can I change this behavior? P.S.: I realized right now that there is the same problem with .docx files and I don't know how many others file types.

Hi. It's the same for all files (except pdf evidently if you choose to open in Firefox).

I can't understand why they do that. I don't want to download to my preferred folder all the files, I want to choose if download or not. To force the download is definitively usefulness, there must be an option to set to decide what to do. Unbelievable!

Firefox always downloads a file when you open it for viewing. This download was previously saved to the temp folder, but the file is now saved to the default Downloads folder as set in Settings (Options/Preferences) like happens with regular downloads.

Hi there! in Bugzilla https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1738574 one week ago Romain Testard finally said that they are going to add an about:config option to restore the "only see" option of a file. Today I received the new 100.0 version of Firefox and I wonder if it includes the fix for that bug. Thanks.

It won't be in Settings. It will be in about:config.

No, there is a file that you can edit to make changes to the section in my screenshot. Hey cor-el, what's the file?

Do you mean handlers.json?
