I have tried MULTIPLE time to do the LockWise. It does not work, too confusing, etc. Want the old way to save logons and passwords. Lockwise is just not working - hate it - since you supposedly updated the saving of logons and passwords - you have made it impossible for me - a senior, who hates changes in technology Do not know what a master password is, where do I find mine. This is garbage what you have forced on us! I am really p....ed

Hi SandraJo, a Master Password is an optional password you create to protect your locally stored logins. You should not be asked to enter a Master Password if you didn't create one yourself. More info:

Use a Primary Password to protect stored logins and passwords

(Soon, Lockwise will be integrated with your Windows login as your Master Password, but I don't think we have that in Firefox 75 yet.)

Thank you!! for your reply but I can not get Firefox to save my logins and passwords. I do as directed - click on the 3 bars at the top right, then click on options. Then I click Privacy and Security which brings up Logins and Passwords. I have checked "Ask to save logons and passwords for websites" , as well have checked "Autofill logins and passwords". Do not have "Use Master Password" checked - never did.

Thanks again for your reply. Think this is hopeless. Sandra

When the feature is enabled, Firefox should drop down a panel from the left end of the address bar asking whether you want to save the login you just submitted on a site. Do you want to test on this dummy login page, just make up any words, don't use a real login:

Does it work there?

If nothing happens, is it possible you are in automatic private browsing mode? In that mode, Firefox won't save site-specific information (other than bookmarks) and the password manager doesn't work. You can check on that on the Options page, Privacy & Security panel, History section. Either of these indicates automatic private browsing:

  • Firefox will: Never remember history
  • Firefox will: Use custom settings for history + "Always use private browsing mode"

Hi,

Thank you again for your reply.

I tried the dummy site, a drop down panel appeared, I checked to save, but it did not work. I then went to my privacy and security panel made sure either item you so well decribed was not checked. Soo, I went to my bank site, put in my username and password - the blue box dropped down and I checked to save it. Closed it and then went to another site signed in and out. Went back to my bank site and the user name and password were not saved.

Since I changed the 2 I had checked you asked me about to make so it is not in automatic, do I need to restart my laptop for them to "apply"? I do not ever remember having to restart with other things I have checked or unchecked in my options. Starting to feel this is hopeless - have always said technology is possessed.

Sandra

Normally Firefox saves logins when you tell it to save, so that is very mysterious.

I'll need to think about what to suggest next, for example, where you might look for error messages or whether to try removing a file in case it's corrupted.

Did this problem just start recently, and it was working normally before? If so, did the problem start around the time of a Firefox update, a Windows update, or changes to your security software?

Yes, "save logins and passwords" feature had been working normally. Love that feature - well, I did until now not working. It just started when Firefox did its latest update. No changes to my security software.
