I am running Firefox 21.0 Mozilla Firefox Yahoo! Edition yahoo - 1.21 on my iMac. Over time (more than the first calendar day it is running), Firefox begins to slow down. By the 3rd or 4th day it is painfully slow with large delays in page downloads, video play, etc. I read somewhere that the problem is with the history, and I have confirmed that if you erase the history and shutdown and restart Firefox daily, it will eliminate the slowness of the program. That is true, but then I lose my history (which I'd like to keep), but more importantly, my open tabs. The only way around this is to bookmark everything. Essentially, using Firefox has become a large pain, to the point I am almost ready to switch back to Safari, even though I like many Firefox features better than Safari. QUESTION: Does Mozilla have a permanent fix for this, and if not, why not? This has been going on for more than a year. Or am I missing something?

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
