I updated Firefox but all the websites I'm trying to use keep saying I'm in an old version. What is happening?

This is my parents' ancient computer that I don't know much about. I'm not a computer whiz, but I'm sure this has an old Windows version. I use gmail, which keeps telling me that I'm in an old version of Firefox. I went to the Help menu and checked the About Firefox, which says 7.0.1. I went to the Firefox website, which pops up the message that I'm using an old version. I tried restarting the whole computer, but no luck.

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Filter = general.useragent.extra.firefox
Right-click that preference and select Reset
Then restart Firefox

more options

When I entered general.useragent.extra.firefox into the filter there was nothing there.

The choices are: general.useragent.compatMode.firefox, general.useragent.locale, general.useragent.override, general.useragent.vendor, general.useragent.vendorsub

You need to reset all general.useragent prefs that show bold (user set) and especially general.useragent.override that probably has the wrong user agent.
