how do i open firefox window "about home" to be able to use it?

I am no longer able to open the Firefox window "about home" in which I always do my searches. I do not want to use Google. Also, I've also lost all of the "tabs" at the top of the page to go to favorite places. What has happened as I've tried to load the latest version of Firefox and the above has taken place.
