I copy and paste near real-time images from FF to TB. The sent message always changes image to most recent, which is very inconvenient.
I frequently copy (the same ) near real-time image from a scientific data site, using Linux Zorin 9 (similar to Ubuntu 14.04), with Firefox version 57.0.3 (64 bit) as the browser. I email these images, with some added text, to myself, and review them later, as needed from time to time. The problem is that now for some time - possibly since upgrading TB and / or FF - the images always 'upgrade to the most recent near real-time image on the web site from where I downloaded the originals. This renders the saved emails as useless ! I am engaged in long term data collection for scientific research, and would really like to solve this problem. Thanks for any help that might be forthcoming. Note the sent date on rHS top of attached image. The near real time plot shows the current date. Ignore my annotation near top LHS of email page ( ~ 12th /20th Nov ... ) .

I have done some tests - here are findings.
If I right click on image and select 'Copy image' then in 'Write' window use 'Paste' I insert image. Noted: 'Paste without formatting' does not insert anything.
Save as 'Draft' and then view. Image is not shown. There is an outlined box. Message below header says 'To protect your privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message'.
I would have to allow remote content for viewing that message or allow remote content from: http://sol.spacenvironment.net
The image source says: src="http://sol.spacenvironment.net/%7Espacewx/data/MAG_Kyoto_Dst3d_sml.png"
So what you have copy pasted is actually a link to image on that website. If they update that image using the same filename, then you constantly will see whatever they put on website. You are not copy pasting just an image, you copy pasting a remote link.
This would explain why you keep seeing a different image from the one you expect.
If you want to keep a log of images, then you need to right click on image and select: 'Save image as' This will open a window asking you where you want to save it. Create and use a suitable folder on your computer (not Thunderbird) for storing these image files. This time it will prompt to be saved as : MAG_Kyoto_Dst3d_sml.png Suggest: modify to include a date eg: MAG_Kyoto_Dst3d_sml-16-01-18.png The next time you save an image, otherwise computer will ask if you want to replace or save and add copy. Adding the date yourself will help when reviewing.

Sounds like you are copy pasting not just the image but also a remote link which updates to show what is on current website.
Please post a link to the website where you copy paste the image.

I've copied and Screen grabbed the same image within a minute or less apart, and pasted both images into separate emails. I'll post the results in about week or tens day's time. Cheers and thanks.
