Several bookmarks I want to delete don't have a star at all, several have a star that isn't blue. How are they to be deleted?

What I am asking is contained in the above- I'm at a loss for the "delete a bookmark" explanation when I have 20 or more that can't be deleted this way. All are simply saved on my laptop, a macbook air. The solution to this in a Mozilla Support exchange I saw that requires a touchscreen will not work, given the laptop I have.

You can either right-click the bookmark and click Delete in the drop-down menu or locate the bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks) and use Delete in the Organize menu (first toolbar button in the Library next to the back and forward buttons).

Where do you see these bookmarks?

Is that in the location/address bar drop-down list asI can't think of other cases where you will see a star?

Bookmark items that appear in the address bar drop-down list should have a star next to it. Otherwise these should be history items or other special items like a search.

You can use these steps to remove data from a drop-down list:

  1. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  2. press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

All of them are in the address bar, not the drop down list- they were accessed by clicking on the saved bookmark in my bookmark list. The steps you provided don't work b/c they aren't in the drop down list. How do I get them out of my bookmark list?

Thank you.

If you do not see the star in the location/address bar when you click a bookmark then it is likely that the bookmark is outdated and that you are redirected to another page. You can verify that by clicking the bookmark in Work Offline mode to prevent opening the page from internet. You can compare the URL of the bookmark and the URL you see in the address bar. You can re-save the bookmark to create a new bookmark or edit its location field to point to the correct page.

Thank you. How do I get into the work offline mode? Most importantly, does what you're suggesting actually change or remove the saved bookmark I have now from my list of saved bookmarks, that is the outdated bookmark? This is what I need to do, the whole point of this question. I don't understand why there isn't another way to just remove bookmarks from that list, it should not be this difficult.

You can compare the link (location) of the bookmark you clicked with the URL in the location/address bar. If the two do not match then this is the likely cause that you do not see the star. In that case you can click the star to create a new bookmark with the correct URL. You can test if the new bookmark works properly and in that case you can remove the bookmark you used previously.

But how do I remove the bookmark I used previously?? Is there a way to do that other than the blue star method? Doing that is the entire point of this request, as I have 20 or so bookmarks in my saved bookmark list that I don't want in there anymore that I can't remove b/c there is no star or the star isn't blue.

Thank you.

Thank you! I had tried right clicking before, it didn't work. Maybe it would if I followed that path first. I used the Organize menu to delete and was able to get rid of them. Very grateful!
