How does firefox know an email address (login) if i had never typed it on that particular website before?

I had typed that particular email on other websites, as a log-in, but not on the website and when I clicked in the text box to type in the email address for this (different) website the email address from the previous came up in the drop down menu. I am sure I have never used that email address on that website before. Why did this happen? Is this a firefox setting?

hello, this is stored in firefox as part of the auto form-fill data - which isn't site-specific. sites can specify certain types of fields like name or mail data, so firefox might offer those on newly visited sites with according fields as well...
