Very slow connections to gmail servers.

For several days we have been experiencing very slow connections from Thunderbird to the gmail servers. When sending an email the connection process to smtp.gmail.com takes 3 to 4 minutes. When copying the email to the "Sent" folder the connection to the imap server again takes 3 to 4 minutes.

I should have noted that we are using version 68.8.1 of Thunderbird on a Linux system running the Manjaro distribution. I've tried using the "safe mode" on Thunderbird and encountered the same delays.
