Videos refuse to start on one site - news.com.au. Other sites ok.
Here's a curly one. Suddenly news videos refuse to start on news.com.au, the internet site for Australia's biggest news media company (Rupert Murdoch). All I get is a circle twirling in the centre of a black square. But, if a You Tube clip is used to illustrate something in the news item, this videos starts immediately. So you end up with one working and the other refusing to start in the same news item. Videos start ok on news.com.au sister sites such as The Daily Telegraph and The Australian (newspapers). Videos work normally on ALL other internet sites, news and otherwise. And - now it gets tricky - the videos on news.com.au work perfectly ok on the Internet Explorer browser. Never had this problem before in eight years. A prize for the champ who works this one out. Don't know what but I'll think of something. Cheers IAN ROLPH

Do you have an icon on the left hand side of the location bar indicating that plugins are blocked?
- Click to Play per-element: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/click-to-play-per-element/
- Click-to-Play Manager: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/click-to-play-manager/
No, nothing has changed. Still cannot get the news videos to start. I downloaded the "click to play" add on. When checking the element earlier I saw something about the "player" having the wrong name, whatever that means. It is the first time I have clicked on to "check the element". The name was shown as "Player.ooyala.com", whatever that means. This one has me beat, but thank you for your quick response cor-el.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
No luck so far cor-el but I do thank you for your help. Just seems strange that this is only happening on one site which I visit for news regularly. Also, why do YouTube clips start immediately. There was a story today that contained a clip explaining the news item and it started immediately, as do all YouTube videos. I do use the add-on Cool Previews for all stories and have done so for a long time as it is a terrific time saver. But even without Cool Previews the problem remains. But thanks again. You help make Firefox the great success that it is.
Re my problem re videos not starting on news.com.au site. Just noticed that the small symbol indicating that the adobe flash has been activated "on this site" does not appear on news.com.au. It does on all other sites where the videos start ok. How do I go about getting the adobe flash to operate on this site?
Let's have another go. Getting a bit sick of being asked to act like some smart geek. I cannot get videos to work on news.com.au site. I am a retired journalist and worked for Rupert Murdoch in Sydney for 30 years. I want to see news.com.au site working. It works on other browsers. I was an excellent sub-editor using computers. I do not want complicated suggestions. I am computer smart but I am not technically trained. I now know why my daughter and her friends say they would not go near Firefox. I don't need this every week. Ok, so I miss out on a lot of the Firefox frills but I do not want to waste time every week trying to sort out a problem. Look at the problems being asked by Firefox users right now. If no one can answer this one (an apparently cor-el can't) then I'm off. Have not got time to waste like this.
Ok, egg on my face, but at least I solved my own problem. The third party cookies were blocked. Now the site is working as it should. Amazing that no one came up with that one. But what the heck. I only wasted three and a half hours sorting this one out. Gee I am clever. Cheers to all the "experts" who missed this one. Yah!
