Youtube video presents fullscreen option at first, then one second into the video, blanks briefly and returns with only an "up_arrow" triangle in lower right corner of video. I have 1) reset zoom, and 2) disabled Flash hd acceleration as suggested. I have also 3) rolled back my NVidea 8500 driver to the previous version (from 10/12 to 8/12), 4) have upgraded Firefox from 16.x to 17.x, and 5) verified Flash v 11.5.502.110

This problem has never presented before. Stymied. Thanks for any suggestions

Ok, do the following:

  1. Make sure your Graphics Driver is upgraded back to the most recent version. Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
  2. Reset Firefox Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Tylerdowner, Thanks for your reply. I had never heard of Firefox reset. Though that looks promising, it also looks risky. I'm concerned about Lastpass problems since LP is an extension - which apparently will not be saved. Also, I have many bookmarks. Additionally, researching the Reset, it appears that I should approach it with the same care I might with an OS re-install.

Therefore I have decided to live with the problem for now. When time permits, I will likely take precautionary measures and then reset.

Thanks for the help.

cor-el, thanks for your reply. No Real Player installed. Reverting to Flash 10.3 looked promising, but got bogged down in process of accomplishing it. Somehow, it seems that should be more straightforward.

For now, no more time for this. Will just live with it for the time being. I have installed Chrome and can use that when I need fullscreen. Must retain Firefox as primary browser though.

Thanks again.

firefox reset isn't anything like reinstalling your Operating System. You will have to reinstall your extensions, but those extensions are most likely the cause of your problems anyway. You won't lose your bookmarks, history, etc. You can also back up your profile if you want. Manually back up and restore Firefox profile data

Suddenly there's fullscreen!

Did I reset Firefox? No. Did I do anything? No.

A few days after this malady reared its ugly head, it has just as quickly vanished. I've scratched my head. Very little use has been made of the big Win 7 box in the past 24 hours. Nothing unusual occurred. A little surfing. Email check. Calendar. Couple of small print jobs from OpenOffice. But, Presto-Change-O! Now there's fullscreen.

It's possibly worth noting again to anyone who is a better sleuth than I, and who may be interested in understanding the nature of the problem, that the instances of No Fullscreen each began with a normal window which blanked out briefly after about one second of play and returned immediately with only a single bottom-right icon of an up-pointing arrow (or triangle). Clicking that arrow revealed 1-3 options, none of which was ever Fullscreen.

Thanks again to Tylerdowner and cor-el for their suggestions. I tried all of those (except reset) with no positive effect. I'm as stymied about the problem's resolution as I am its onset and cause.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

I looked at these links. Thanks for the suggestion. If the problem returns, and I'm betting it will, this is the first thing I will try.
