Hmm, check in the options > Advanced > General that your locale is what you think it is. Thunderbird tends to be distributed in an EN_US English format. If like me you come from a part of the world were month follows day then you need to have the Date Time formatting set to Regional settings. Or you will be entering day in the month space... All well and good for the first 12 days of the month.

I thought of that but in the end this was not the problem. I downgraded to version 52.9.1 and that fixed it.
