I would have posted this on this previous question by the same name https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1266115 However it has been closed from further discussion despite being the top search google link for "thunderbird filter contains wildcard"

And what I wanted to say is that

This should long have been core functionality It is not even apparent when you make the filters, that wildcards (*) don't work So you make a ton of filters and they're silently broken !!!

I find the general filter creation process very cumbersome, almost almost every setting has to be changed every time, the main window, locks so you can't copy-paste from it mid-filter-creation and many many other quirks that make each filter creation an annoying 20 steps process, core among which, is the inability to create a destination folder on the fly while creating the filter !

But yeah, no wildcard support is kind of crazy

for example I want to put all emails from pizzahut in a folder

But they randomly change their From URL to @a.pizzahut.ca @b.pizzahut.ca @c.pizzahut.ca @d.pizzahut.ca @e.pizzahut.ca @f.pizzahut.ca

It's like they know the filters can't wildcard ! they is super annoying !!

After the last update when trying to send email I get the warrning of app: errer with "smtp.gmail.com". Any idea on how to fix it? Thank you for your help.

I have a SoGO email account through my educational institution. I configured the new account in Thunderbird just as I did with my other email accounts (which are all functioning well). My SoGO email was verified to be working, and I was able to receive new emails and also search my old emails. However, when I try to send emails, I come up with a Send Message Error that says Authentication required. I have checked the email address, the Outgoing Server, the authentication methods, and the server settings, and I can find nothing that is wrong. I am still able to send emails from the other accounts, and I am able to get incoming emails to the SoGO account, I just can't send them.

Hi, I' ve been using Thunderbird for years with no problems, but the other day my servier changed their settings and now Thunderbird won't recieve any of e-mails. They sent me settings and finally I figured out them to work on my phone, but not on Thunderbird. The new serivcers address is "ny201.whpservers.com" and the incoming port is 995 and the outgoing port is 465. I used the same settings that I used for my phone, but they won't work on Thunderbird. I'm supose to use SSL for incoming/outgoing messages and when I use testing connection to server I get a message of "The certificate for mail.dostie.net:995 is not valid for that server. Someone could be trying to impersonate the server and you should not continue." Can you please provide help to resolve this issue.

The attached message pops up when in coming mail is coming in, not anything gong out. How can I fix this. See attached image. I have checked my sent messages..nothing shows up..I have checked my out box in local folders still nothing shows up

All of a sudden Thunderbird won't get my incoming emails from att.net (currently.com)

I'm using Thunderbird 152.0a1 (2026-04-22) on Windows 10 64 bit. When I click the "Get Messages" button or File > Get New Messages for > [my e-mail account] nothing happens. The only way I've found to check for messages manually is by closing and re-opening the program.

Hi. I´m running thunderbird 150.0 under win10 an a HP2760p with 8 GB RAM and 155 GB of free SDD-space.

I´ve got the errormessage: "Nachrichten konnten nicht in die Mailbox-Datei geschrieben werden. Stellen Sie sicher, dass das Dateisystem Ihnen Schreibrechte einräumt und genügend Speicherplatz zur Verfügung steht, um die Mailbox zu kopieren."

That is: Unable to write mesages to the mailbox-file. Make shure to have writing rights according to the filesystem and enaugh space is available to copy the mailbox.

I can´t find a limitation to filesize. I deleted a lot of mails, the error persists. I updated from thunderbird 140 to 150.0. The error persists. I downloaded my emails on an win11 Laptop. The download stopped after a while with the same error.

I subscribe to a number of RSS feeds in TB. This works well nearly all of the time but sometimes I find that TB has paused updates. I never want it to do this.

Why does it happen and is there a way to stop it doing it?

Thunder bird version 140.10.Oesr on iMac desktop. Just stopped DL mail. Asked me to sign in; shows my user name. When I click NEXT it goes to a blank page and say "too many trys" Next dy; say on first attmpt.

I am with activ8.net.au, and I cannot now send e-mails. Receiving is fine. Have contacted activ8-me and they cannot help.

Version is 150.0 (64 bit)

Program does not check Pop Mail accounts on startup. Only checking after triggering with button or shift+f5 Timely check is succesfull (1min,10min etc.)

I got 6 accounts and -everyone is checked to include on startup -added/checked config file options;added new lines -tried safe mode etc. -delete json file

None of the above worked.

Any more suggestions?

I can't get email. When I try a window comes up saying sign in and when I click on it the next window says error 400 and that's it. I can't get my email! Please help!

It's been several days and no email!!

Pop-up with Thunderbird icon: "Enter credentials ... on imap.mail.yahoo.com". I have spent many hours and only made things worse. I can still access mail via webmail, but not via Thunderbird.

I have a Shaw.ca email account. The outbound email does not work for this account.

The outbound email works fine, it is just the inbound server that refuses access.
