Possible bug: I cannot stop Firefox from restoring sessions after restarting computer. Restore previous session is not checked in Settings, browser.sessionstore.resuming_after_os_restart is false, and browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash is false as well. Ubuntu 20.04, Firefox 91.0.2, only add-on is TreeStyleTabs, but this behavior displays with add-ons disabled.

Can't restore previous session tabs after Firefox crash using Firefox 95 on Mac

I have consulted https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-restore-my-tabs-last-time. That article says:

-Click on the menu button [three lines at the upper right] to open the menu panel. -Click History. -Click Recently Closed Tabs.

I am using Firefox 95.0.2 for Mac (iOS 10.15.7). There is no "Recently Closed Tabs" option to click after clicking on History per the above instruction. I have saved various files from the time of the crash, in particular "previous.jsonlz4" (a 20.6 MB file, as I had a very large number of tabs open). Is there any way to use this or some other file to restore my old tabs?

/moved thread from Firefox for iOS (for iPhone/iPad) to Firefox (desktop) section as you have macOS.

Restore recently closed tab shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+T) not working

Dear Mozilla/Firefox,

I've been using Firefox over the last couple of months/years but I just can't get the restore recently closed tab shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+T) to work on my windows PC.

Here's a (Loom) recording of me showing that Firefox does correctly track the history of closed tabs and that I can click on them to restore but the shortcut (which is also mentioned as CTRL+SHIFT+T) just won't work: https://www.loom.com/share/7048894683654dccb4926aa4dd09e6a6

What I've tried so far: - Check if the history is actively collected - No I'm not using private browsing - I've read another support thread to check "about:config" and in there check that "browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo" is set (in my case it's the default 25) - Disabling all extensions (which I don't think are any suspicious or weird ones but disabled just to check - see attached image) - Resetting Firefox through the windows uninstaller - Fully uninstalling (using Revo Uninstaller with advanced check) and reinstalling Firefox

Please help me because I'm about to quit Firefox for such often used feature just not working...

P.S. it's working perfectly on my Macbook and I'm running the latest 96.0.1 64bit version

Before updating to Firefox 96, I could close tabs no matter how squished they were. Now I cannot. Someone with a similar problem at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1194322 was able to find help, but I'm not meeting with any success implementing their chosen fix. Is there a way to keep the close tab button active with this many tabs anymore, or is that out?

Can't restore previous session, "recently closed windows" grayed out

Hi

I had two Firefox windows open. One with 100+ tabs and the other with 1 tab. I closed the Firefox with 100 tabs, and then closed the one with 1 tab, without thinking. I then realised that I should have closed them in the opposite order, because I want the 100 tabs to get restored.

I opened Firefox again and was dismayed to see just the single tab get restored. I did some searching and backed up the "sessionstore-backups" folder.

I then tried to close Firefox and replace sessionstore.jsonlz4 with previous.jsonlz4 from the backed up "sessionstore-backups" folder. This did not work, as when I opened Firefox I still only got the 1 tab back and "recently closed windows" remains grayed out. Ctrl+Shift+N does nothing as well.

I used https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html to inspect the backed up previous.jsonlz4 file and it shows

Open Windows Open Window 1 Tab 1 [...]

Closed Windows Closed Window 1 Tab 1 [...] [...] Tab 125 [...]

So the previous.jsonlz4 file does contain my mistakenly closed window but I can't get Firefox to restore the tabs!

Can anyone please help me get my tabs back? I'm on Firefox v96.0.1.

The last 2 times I've had to restart my laptop unexpectedly (ie not shut down properly), Firefox has loaded tabs from a month or so prior which means I lose recent tabs. Anything I can do to keep the automatic session restore more up to date? Couldn't find anything in settings that might apply.

Every time Firefox throws out an update, it's a blind gamble as to whether the tabs, that were such a labor to get back below the bookmark bar after the LAST update, will appear again back at the top. Somehow the userChrome.css gets jazzed or some other thing is different. Then, suddenly, all you see are desperate people posting about how to get the tabs back where they belong. For the love of God Almighty on a roller coaster, isn't anyone at Mozilla thinking that it might be time to just make this a setting? I know I'm not the first person to request this. Which is all the more reason to make it a priority. Please. Shake somebody.

Please help, I just screwed up so bad I accidentally pressed the red "close" button on Firefox on my Mac instead of the yellow "minimise" button and lost a bunch of tabs I need (they were from a while back so not in history)

There is no option to "restore previous session" or "reopen tabs" is there any way whatsoever to recover my lost tabs I am freaking out big time there was some really important stuff in there that I hadn't bookmarked yet like an absolute IDIOT!!! My session had stayed active through computer being shut down and restarted and Firefox updates but pressing the red "close" button has seemingly nuked it. Is there a way to go into folders and find the tabs? Anything please help :(

Any help appreciated, I'm desperate.

I like to mute all of my tabs so they don't play annoying sounds. However a very annoying mute icon appears when I hover over it and the "muted" text is shown under the name. I tried adding to my userChrome.css:

@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul); .tab-icon-overlay[muted], .tab-icon-sound[muted] {

 display: none !important;

}

This only removes the muted icon, and when I hover over a tab its favicon disappears. I also tried changing browser.tabs.showAudioPlayingIcon as suggested in [answer] but it isn't an option anymore.

How do I remove it completely without changing the context menu item?

I'm setting up a new computer. I have Firefox set up to have new tabs be the default Firefox home page. Those new pages display a Google search section but when I type in that section, the text switches to the address bar for the search. How can I make the search happen on the page, not the address bar? Under Settings/Search, it has a search setting section with only 2 choices - Use the address bar for search and navigation & Add search bar in toolbar. I've tried it both ways, and the same thing happens. My previous computer (both are Windows 10) did not have this problem. I could type/search in the Google search section. Thoughts?

I've noticed this happening in the past week. Example #1 I used Google search to look for Japanese dogs & clicked on Wikipedia In addition a tab on debt popped up on its own. Here's a link to it: https://go.debthelpguide.com/api/offer

Example #2 I logged into citi.com to check my credit card activity In addition a tab which was of a sexual nature popped up on its own. I was so shocked I didn't think of saving a link for it.

It doesn't happen on all tabs I am using. Thank you in advance for your help.

When video/audio starts playing on a browser, the tab title displays 'playing' text. This additional line resizes the window height and causes the tab content to resize too. I lost a window containing 500+ tabs and really need it back. My computer had just restarted, and usually after that I would recover my tabs using either the "Restore Session" page that would come up or by doing "three-bar menu" > "History" > "Restore previous windows". However, this time, someone else used my laptop after it booted up and started a new tab on the "session restore" page. This window was then closed. When I opened up the window again and navigated back to the original "Restore Session" page, the "Restore Session" button didn't work. Is there any way I can restore my original window with the 500+ tabs? I have a lot of important information that I would be very sad to lose. Thank you.
