is there a way to adjust the default tiling of multiple windows to just horizontal and not both horizontal and vertical?

So Firefox overwrote my settings with an update I guess - nobody else has access to my PC or Mobile and I certainly didn't do it. They turned on Send technical and integration data, turned on Studies, turned on Daily Usage Ping, turned on crash reports.
Its pretty disappointing - this is the sort of stuff MS or Apple do. It breaks trust. If they are changing this then what else do they change that I cannot see. I suppose I need to see about a different browser.
