It did this for a week or so before I updated Java. This ran fine for a few days until I updated Flash and now the problem has resurfaced. It may be a coincidence.

Any ideas what may be causing this or how to correct it?

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

There are other things that need your attention.

Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32).

  • (32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
  • (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page (no need to toggle the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true in Firefox 22 and later).

It's ok, all seems well at the moment. Somehow the 'don't load tabs until selected' box had been checked. This may have happened with a firefox update though I don't remember updating it recently.

Cheers all for your suggestions.

I have deleted the old Flash file extension as advised.
