Lately when I download an image, from Google expanded images on the right side for example, the download drops down a menu. If I have made multiple downloads the list gets longer and now blocks the area of the page I am working on. I don't need this downloads drop down menu and cannot find a way to stop it. I would prefer if it didn't display unless I clicked on it.

I have searched the net but can't find any answers. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tom.

In Firefox 97 and 98+ there have been changes to the download panel.

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page to prevent opening the download panel on each download.

  • browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

I changed browser.download.alwaysOpenPanel... It didn't work, and now isn't in the list. browser.download.alwaysShown just reverts back to true, and now doesn't show either. Mozilla Firefox... I wish you wouldn't change things that don't need changing... And if you do, make an option for it in the settings, well over an hour of my time has been wasted on your stupidity and I haven't a fix.

Seems like they've been changing the about:config entries I changed a not seen before browser.download.alwaysOpenInSystemViewerContextMenuItem to false... Seems to have returned my issue back to normal.
