Apparently Firefox is not liked in the financial sector (see below). While I have access to IE, Edge, and Safari, I prefer Firefox, which encounters this problem regardless of what machine I use. I'm being told that I need to get rid of Firefox. Perhaps Mozilla would consider addressing this issue with the financial institution involved. However, I'm not able to access Mozilla directly. Perhaps this forum could get the issue to someone within Mozilla who cares. Here's the thread:

Good morning, [deleted],

All bowsers, operating systems and mobile devices use an authorized Certificate authority program. These programs make these certificate available.

It is not clear to us whether the Edge and Safari browsers you mention are on the same machine. We can say that if either of those browsers are on the same machine as the browser you are having certificate trouble with, we would consider that browser (Firefox) the issue.

The corrective options we would consider are:

· Run a deep Antivirus Security scan.

· Remove Firefox from my system, Scan again

· Use a different browser

Please contact us if we can be of additional help.
Thank you,
Client Access Support

Ah. Yes. You’re quite correct. Edge and Safari run it very well. Is there some reason you’ve not provided your certificates to Mozilla for Firefox?

Good afternoon,
If you are clicking on a link and getting that error message then it is possible that you may need to use a different browser to ensure that you have updated root certificates. Our certificates are valid and up to date.
The Client Access Support Department is available to assist weekdays (excluding holidays) between the hours of 8 AM to 9 PM ET and weekends 8 AM to 5 PM ET.
Thank You,

"[deleted] uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER"

Hi n9cjt, have you told us what site it is? If you don't want to tell us, please test the domain on the following page:

https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/

If the page indicates there is an incomplete chain problem, this is a web server configuration issue.

If the page comes up with all good, then it could be a "man in the middle" problem on your system. For the error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER", please see this article for additional comments:

How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites

If you want to share more information with us, you could copy/paste the problem certificate into a reply. Otherwise, you could decode it yourself to view the "issuer" information. More details if needed.

more options

You can check if there is more detail available about the issuer of the certificate.

  • click the "Advanced" button show more detail
  • click the blue error text (SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER) to show the certificate chain
  • click "Copy text to clipboard" and paste the base64 certificate chain text in a reply

If clicking the blue error text doesn't provide the certificate chain then try these steps to inspect the certificate.

  • open the Servers tab in the Certificate Manager
    • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Certificates: View Certificates -> Servers: "Add Exception"
  • paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's Location field

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"

  • click the "View" button and inspect the certificate

You can see detail like the issuer of the certificate and intermediate certificates in the Details tab.
