Following the " [CLIENTBUG] SELECT command is not valid in this state" fiasco last week which "disappeared" the messages from my Yahoo default account folders I'm jumping ship. No customer support from Yahoo and sweet 'F' all from Mozialla has led me to this decision. On another forum, GMX gets good reviews, as does Thunderbird and that is the only reason I'm thinking of staying with you. Yahoo though is turning into a swear word. Lots of people are having password/security problems which they are unable to resolve/

Below are my plea for help when I first had the security problem and for days later.and able Normally people on here are willing to help but not this time.

OK, here's the tyre kickers solution.

As none of the 'solutions' provided by all had worked and I had lost all hope of finding my lost folders, I decided to delete my default account in Thunderbird. I then added the same account to Thunderbird and made it my default, as it was before this security problem. To my amazement, the folders reappeared, all emails were in the right folders and to top it all, I was able to send and receive emails once again.

I am underwhelmed by the support on here. I'm starting to think that I should be looking to replace Thunderbird as well as Yahoo.

I'm hanging on by a thread.

I'm underwhelmed by your habit creating a new topic for every post. Did it occur to you you can post again to the original topic you started?

Well I tried that on my second post, then a moderator locked my first post so I couldn't post on that. As I was not getting a reply from anyone I thought I must be posting under the wrong title so I tried again. NOBODY except a moderator had the courtesy to reply to my pleas and he only replied to say he had locked my post. And now when you reply you mock the way I have tried to get an answer to my problem. but nothing about my questions.

This is not what I expect from Mozilla Support and I have no idea what has gone wrong since I looked for help about a year ago,

I'm still no wiser as to what went wrong with Yahoo accounts linked to Thunderbird nor do I know if GMX email accounts will work seamlessly with Thunderbird. So my problem this time has not been resolved.

Thanks for your interest.

Lots of people use GMX with Thunderbird. Can you make it work? Time will tell. GMX is a real provider. Yahoo, no so much.

Thanks for your input,

I never heard of GMX until a few days ago so I know nothing about them. Are you aware of any other free email providers that work well with Thunderbird.?

All but Yahoo and it does not even work with itself.

I will be trying out GMX soon and if I like it I will set an account up in Thunderbird.

Cheers

I use gmx for both email and calendar. Both work well and reliably. I held off from answering because I don't know what to say in reference to your question about security. Gmx uses the industry standard TLS encryption for email. All I know about yahoo is that they persist in fiddling with their system and continually breaking things. I have no idea whether or not their recent broken attempt to add OAuth2 or application specific passwords actually provides any improvement to security. Given their breach leading to exposure of user logins which they refused to admit to for over 2 years, I'd say their security is not credible.

Zenos, thank you for your input.

I loved the Yahoo/Thunderbird combination and it worked well for years. So did a Tiscali account with TB. But I changed my mdefault email from Tiscali to Yahoo when I moved Internet provider from Talk Talk a few years ago. I was told then they could not guarantee access to Tiscali for more than a few months. I started to use Yahoo for important communications and continued using Tiscali for everything else, via Thunderbird. Prior to that I had no real preference, probably because I managed them on Thunderbird.

I like what you say on GMX. It echoes what others are saying. I will make time this week to set up an account and test it through TB for a few days. Then I will change my email on all email accounts & subscriptions before notifying personal contacts of my new email address.

You mention imap and a lack of folders.

Can you confirm that you have subscribed to see them? Right click on imap mail account in folder pane and select 'Subscribe'. You should see a list of folders. What do you see?

When you start up thunderbird or use 'get Messages' on an imap yahoo account, what happens ? What error message do you get? If you get error message what does it say...word for word?

If you logon to the webmail yahoo account via browser, do you see all the emails and folders? In webmail account have you selected to use 'Allow apps that use less secure sign in' option ? If not selected then select it. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN27791.html

I tried subscribing to them but there are no folders under Folders List to subscribe to. Even when I refresh, the folder list is empty.

When this Yahoo problem first started. I wrote several questions detailing what was happening and the question links are listed above in the first post in this Question,

Attached is the error message I receive in TB. it now appears if I click the sometimes visible but empty Inbox on the default account or click Get Messages. If I try sending from the default account, it starts to send but gets stuck on Copying Message to sent Folder, because the folder does not exist. I created a new Sent folder but that folder did not appear. I created it once again, thinking it would not permit another Sent folder to be set up, but it accepted the creation. Once again the Sent folder did not appear.

Allow apps that use less secure sign in' option ? I changed that setting last week when I read it in Yahoo Forum as a possible solution. It did not make the slightest difference.

My folders in Thunderbird were different to those in Yahoo apart from the default ones. Inbox, sent, draft, trash. Now I still see Inbox intermittently but it's empty and the other folders are gone.

I am resigned to having lost my messages in the Yahoo disappeared email folders. I now wish to move on with GMX or whoever I select as my main email account provider.

Just jn case anyone ids interested I solved this Yahoo Clientbug problem for me, All the technical fixes did nothing to solve the problem. I tried the tyre kickers solution and it worked. My original email folders and messages were restored in Thunderbird, and I thought they were gone forever. I can now send and receive mail from my default account. This was just after I signed up to a GMX email account. Now I have a choice.

For the benefit of others, perhaps you could explain what you did.

That's fine for accounts which use IMAP. Do it with a POP-connected account and you'll lose sight of your store of old messages.

My account was IMAP and I lost the folders for two weeks after my password was first rejected by Yahoo, That was the start of the problem for me.

I'm glad it is working OK again as I did not relish changing all my online accounts and notifying all my contacts.
