Can't stop sync with Webmail; want separate deletes, Webmail vs. Tbird

more options

I read my emails in Mozilla-Tbird and only rarely on WebMail. But I need to periodically empty my WebMail folders so they don't overload. For the 1st time since downloading Mozilla-Tbird, I deleted my Webmail entries, emptied the Trash there. When i switched back to Mozilla, all my copies were gone there, too! BTW, under TOOLS>ACCT. SETTINGS>SYNC.&SETTINGS, I already had checked the top box for MESSAGE SYNC.: Keep messages for this acct. on this computer. Also radio buttons on were: Disc Space: SYNC; and Recover disk space: Don't delete.

What you describe is exactly how IMAP email works. Messages are on the server and you view them remotely on your devices. If you delete a message at the server or from any device the message is removed.

TheKkeep messages on this device is only so you can view messages on your device if not connected to the internet. Once you reconnect to the internet and the mail server any changes you made locally are synced with the server.

I suggest to Google IMAP vs POP so you know how each protocol works and what would work best for you.
