how to globally stop email notifications of replies to my topics?

Hi Friends, In the Edit Settings part of my user controls, I've unchecked all the "watch" options. But I still get an email every time there's a reply to any topic I've started.

How can I make this stop globally?

I know there's a place to click to stop the emails on each topic. But it would be nice if it could be done globally.

I'm not sure what the reasoning is, for this kind of arrangement. But it seems to me like it would work better if members had the option to opt IN to notifications, once in a while when they need it; rather than opt out almost all the time.

Hoping for a solution. Thanks for listening  :-)

Brynn2:

Sorry you're having problems with this. Are you still receiving e-mails from notifications@support.mozilla.org? I do see your screenshot, this seems wrong. I'll probably have to file a bug and cross-link to this topic. As for your question, the only thing I would recommend is disabling system emails as it is in my screenshot. This needs attention of a site developer from what I am aware of.

Bug has been filed. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=968006 Also, if you don't mind, I am going to use your screenshot as proof.

Hi there!

Are you referring to the emails you are getting from us here at Mozilla Support?

Thanks!

As far as I know, it should stop automatically once you uncheck them.

There should be a link in the email to stop sending you a mail for replies in the thread.

There is also a Get/Stop email updates button in the menu on the right of the thread.

Yes, I'm aware of those. But the next time I start a new topic, I have to click either one of those again. I'm asking, instead of this opt-out of receiving notifications, there could be opt-in. Then instead of recieving another email, every time someone replies, I'll only recieve an email, if I ask for it.

In Edit Settings, the only 1 that's checked, is Send Emails for Private Messages. All the others are unchecked.

Yes. They come from notifications@support.mozilla.org. And the subject is ""username" posted an answer to your question "title of topic"". If I click "Stop Email Updates" in the (edit)right(/edit) column on the topic thread page, they stop coming. But I don't want to have to click that, every time I post a new topic.

And I would think, it's a lot of wasted virtual energy, space, and I guess bandwidth, to have them sent automatically, by default, for every single reply, in every single topic, every single day. The only time they aren't sent, is if the member who started the topic, happens to know how to stop them.

And in a support forum such as this, I would guess you get a lot of new members who are lucky enough to have figured out how to get here and post a message. Chances are, they don't even have their email program open. And not to mention those who use webmail (which I don't think alerts the users when they have new mail, although maybe some do, I'm not sure).

You know, if you want to reply to someone else's topic, you do have the option to opt-in, and receive notifications, only if you want them. Why can't there be a user control that will provide the opt-in for the user who starts a new topic?

Thanks for comments, etc.  :-)

Thanks Kadir Topal, but as I mentioned already -- I have unchecked every setting except "Send email for private messages". Please see attached screenshot.

Thanks again :-)

Note that these settings only apply to new threads/posts and not to existing threads that you may have subscribed to in the paste before changing these settings.

You would have to open the thread from a reply to see if you can unsubscribe if you can't do this via a link in the mail.

I filed a bug for this issue, but for now, it seems like you really need to unsubscribe individually from each thread. Sorry about that.

Kadir, I filed a bug last night. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=968006

Thanks Moses and Kadir Topal and cor-el  :-)

I will continue to use the Stop Emails link in right column, since that's what I've been doing all along. And I don't post here very often anyway. So it will not torture me until it's fixed, lol.

But I appreciate your attention, and hope it won't be long until it's fixed.

And yes, you can use my screenshot for evidence. I guess you got all my system config info from the right column, but if you need any more info, just lmk.

Thanks again everyone  :-D

I don't know how to mark this as solved, since I guess it won't technically be solved until the bug is addressed and fixed. I guess I should mark the reply with bug report? Please let me know if that's not correct.
