Normally I would select/wrap text in Firefox and right click and choose copy from the top of menu, click and go to Word,Notepad etc. and go to paste but nothing there paste item in menu greyed out.

It works ok ctrl v and c but is frustrating because the built-in function is so much cleaner

  • UPDATE - Downloaded Firefox 23.0 Beta1 - problem is gone - works again - Thanks all!!

The developers have created a fix for this problem for future versions of Firefox (Firefox 23+). Unfortunately, there's no immediate solution for Firefox 22.

The current beta of Firefox 23 does not yet contain the fix. It is included in beta 6, but that is not yet available through the "all beta" page.

Update: The main beta page now offers beta "8" which has the fix. The file you download should have 23.0b8 in the file name.

Note: Firefox 23 is scheduled for release on August 6th, but it isn't pushed out to everyone all at once. You might need to visit the main install page to get it if your Firefox doesn't detect the new version on the 6th or 7th.

@Shirtmaker: Could you explain what exactly this two settings are doing? For me it seemed to work, until it happened again, but not that much as before.

@Himox

I quote from the mozilla developer network:

"dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled lets websites get notifications if the user copies, pastes, or cuts something from a web page, and it lets them know which part of the page had been selected. The emitting of the oncopy, oncut and onpaste events are controlled by this preference.

true (default)

   The oncopy, oncut and onpaste events are enabled for web content.

false

   The oncopy, oncut and onpaste events are disabled for web content.

and for Clipboard.autocopy read following:

There is a post on the ZoneAlarm discussion forum suggesting that changing the ZA Application Control settings might affect the ability of Firefox 22 to use the clipboard.

Naturally, the trust level of a web browser in the wilds of the web is dubious, but if someone is willing to perform a test with no untrusted sites open, could you try these settings and see whether it has an effect?

In this help article, see the section of the table for Trust Level: Customizing Program Access Permissions.

If you currently have Firefox as Restricted, could you try Trusted or Ask and see whether Firefox 22 has better access to the clipboard?

I would be hesitant to use Trusted for regular web browsing, and Ask might be annoying in regular use, but if we can determine that this is the key setting in ZA, perhaps that will help get to a solution.

@Himox:

now I know what you mean, it does not run smoothly like befor the update. That is right. But for the moment is the only solution I have. So hopefully mozilla/firefox give a solution as soon as possible and fix the problem for all user.

Hi Shirtmaker, what operating system are you running? The clipboard.autocopy article implies that it works only in Linux and it would be useful to know whether it works on Windows or Mac.

windows. I have read it with linux, but after setting to true , it run also on my system. But it works I can copy and paste (with reservations). It run not so smoothly like befor the update.. Copy paste from website to word is like befor, copy from website to website is with reservations sometimes.

I'm having the same issue. Firefox 22.0 and Zone Alarm Firewall 11.0.000.504. Zone Alarm on -- no cut and paste in Firefox. Turn off Zone Alarm and cut and paste works again. Since there were no issues with the previous version of Firefox, it's clearly Mozilla's problem and not Check Point's so I'm hoping Mozilla will step up and fix their issue. No intention of ditching Zone Alarm after many years of faithful and trouble-free service. By the way, using Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a Dell XPS 8300

Hi Cathi_I, do you have a few minutes to try changing the ZA settings in this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/962451?page=3#answer-454726

I'm having the same issue. I went to bed early last night and woke up to this problem. I can't explain enough how irritating this issue is - especially since the majority of what I do on the internet involves copying/pasting. I went to see what my ZA settings were, and there are no issues there. The copy/past function only works once in a while, when it wants to.  :/

I've been following this thread since I last posted. jscher2000 thanks for the notice about v 23, 24 and 25. Is there any estimated release date for these versions? When they are released, will the Firefox updating function skip over v 22 to update to them? Thanks!

I have the same problem.

The only I can do it's to drag and drop the text you want to copy. Hope it's work for everybody.

drag and drop works for me, but is due to my security settings no way an alternative way.

Hi WarnerP42, Firefox 23 should be officially released in about 4 weeks. Firefox 23 will be in beta testing until then, so you could install it sooner, but I'm not sure how soon the fix will be added to the beta.

Firefox 22, 23beta, Aurora + ZoneAlarm (width: super trusted Firefox/Aurora) => random cut/copy/paste

The problem solved for me: downgrade to Firefox 21 and wait till version 25 or reported fix

The thread owner edited his original post to report that updating to Firefox 23 Beta solved his problem. I'm marking this July 10 post by jscher2000 as the solution:

The developers have created a fix for this problem for future versions of Firefox (definitely Firefox 25, and probably Firefox 23 and 24). Unfortunately, there's no immediate solution for Firefox 22.
